Completed Aerospace projects

For many years, Lunds have been working with British Aerospace, Lockheed Martin & THALES Training for the design and manufacture of the mechanical structures for cockpit simulator rigs (systems) through to complete aircraft simulator assemblies. This division of the company has grown over time and is housed in our second factory at our Rustington Site.

Crew Station Cabinet for Merlin Helicopter - Lunds Bros & Co.

Crew Station Cabinet for Merlin Helicopter

In collaboration with Lockheed Martin and Lunds Design this Crew Station Cabinet is designed to test the equipment used in the Merlin Helicopter.

The equipment used is commercial versions of the aircraft spec. and is used to test the functionality of the software systems.

This robust design will be in use for many years to come as a vehicle for testing and flight crew training. Several of these are being manufactured by Lunds and will be used throughout the world.

Tornado Simulator - Lunds Bros & Co.

Tornado Simulator

A Thales static Tornado Simulator in production at our Fabrication Shop. Using a re-claimed Tornado Fuselage and adapted to suit the simulator. The hand rails are designed to slide away when the simulator is in use.

The finished simulator is housed in a dome where the visuals are mapped to give a realistic proximity of the landscape.

Below and inside the support structure are housed the electronics and air conditioning units. The fuselage is painted matt black to prevent reflections of the visuals and the ancillary framework is painted grey.

Eurofighter Typhoon cockpit simulator

Lunds were approached by BAE Systems to design, develop and manufacture the cockpit simulators for the new Eurofighter - Typhoon fighter project.

The design was undertaken in Pro-Engineer and 3D concept models were quickly produced to prove the aesthetics of the design brief. This was followed by detailed 3D models using imported data from BAE Systems CATIA drafting system for equipment references and on approval, manufacturing drawings were produced.

Designed to test the aircrafts electronics systems, attention to detail was paramount as the layout of the simulator follows the aircraft design and can accommodate actual equipment.

Using Aircraft parts as references the main structure is of sheet steel for strength and painted in house to the customers specifications.

The finished assembly is mounted on industrial castors to facilitate positioning and movement. The Aircraft "Display Suite" and machined equipment housings are either "aircraft parts" or facsimiles.

All the wiring and electronics are the work of BAE Systems who have now completed the initial systems which will be delivered to the end users.

Lunds would like to thank BAE Systems for allowing us to publish these pictures of the finished product. We would also like to thank the Rig Systems team for their support and collaboration during both the design and manufacturing cycles of this project.

Nimrod electronics and control systems - Lunds Bros & Co.

Nimrod electronics and control systems

One of our earliest projects involved working with the leading companies in the Aerospace industry to design and build the Workstation facsimiles for laboratory testing of the Nimrod electronics and control systems.

The contract covered the sheet metal enclosures for the Workstations and the test benches.

Since then we have produced workstations and a complete fuselage based on the Nimrod design to simulate the working environment of the Nimrod crew.
